Assigment Two

Slaves in Brazil were treated totally different than in North America. Slaves could have different ways to be freedom in Brazil. One of the many options that Brazilian slaves have was to marry with a free person. Additionally, if their master approved the marriage, and the master did not announce the fact of the slave status, the slave could be free (Frank Tannenbaum)

Slaves in Brazil had some rights that helped them to achieve some status of equality. The most amazing between slaves and master was that both have rules, the master could not kill or injure his slaves. Even when African American Slaves had the status of prisoners or servants, they were treated with a certain level of humanity. They could intercede for their families and buy their freedom; also if one of the parents was free the child had the option to born free. Slaves were conditioned for the system of slavery, but they were able to live fairly compare with the African American Slaves.

Sadly, the history narrates the cruel realty of slavery. It is impossible to affirm that slavery in Brazil were better than slavery in North America because the slavery could not be considered as a normal life condition. However, slavery is part of the human history and we cannot change the history. Nevertheless, we are able now to understand the difference between slavery in South America and North America. While in Brazil slaver were able to rich their freedom in different ways, in North America slaves were dehumanize. African American people were prosecuted and treat as slaves just for their skin color even if they were not slaves. Slaves in North America were treating worse than animals, they were considered human. They were killed just for talk or just for be “different” physically. The worst scenery in North America was when White American people killed slaves and children, women, and men enjoyed the murder.

The first day of class I was able to reflect about history. It was surprised when I understand how people used the religion, and moral ethics to justify their selfish and petty desires. It is hard to figure out how human beings referred the dehumanization as GOD’s plans for them to achieve their rights of life, liberty and happiness. Jefferson as others used “GOD’s plans” to achieve their desires. They took others and used them as a property forgetting their rights.
Following the David Walker’s feelings I can say that he is totally right. GOD created us equal, we have the same rights, it doesn’t matter our skin color, ethnicity, culture, or economic position. Jefferson justified his actions in the religion, but David claimed his rights in the religion too. My conclusion for both position is that our rights end when the rights of others begin.
